'We had our issues before,' Daria Kasatkina invites peace on court with Jelena Ostapenko after a crushing defeat against the Latvian just before the Australian Open

In the world of sports, heated rivalries last a while but sooner or later they calm down with the players being at peace with each other. A similar kind of ending between two tennis players Jelena Ostapenko and Daria Kasatkina.

At the 2017 US Open, both these players faced off against each other with the Russian winning the match 6-3,6-2. After the match, she gave an extremely cold handshake to her opponent disrespecting the conduct of tennis. This was the start of the war of words exchanged between them where Kasatkina revealed to the press that they were not friends and that there was tension between them. 

However, years passed by and the players faced off against each other another time at the 2024 Adelaide International finals. The scripts were flipped this time around and the Latvian got her revenge by beating her opponent in the same way 6-3,6-2 to win her 7th title. During the post-match interview, the Russian confirmed that their issues have been sorted and that both of them can be on the same stage in a peaceful environment. 

Jelena Ostanpenko enters the top 10 after title win at Adelaide

Former Wimbledon champion, Jelena Ostapenko recently won her 7th singles title at the Adelaide International by beating her long-term rival Daria Kasatkina

A match that was predicted to have a lot of feuds turned out to be a pretty calm one with the players declaring peace between each other, ending their long-term fight. Ostapenko had started her run at the tournament with wins over Caroline Garcia and Sorana Cirstea before fighting her way through the quarterfinal and semi-final stages to end up in the finals. On the contrary, Kasatkina got a couple of walkthroughs in the tournament that saw her in the finals easily. 

The Latvian won the match to continue her form in 2024. After ending the 2023 season as world No. 12, Ostapenko won the first tournament of the year to jump up two places and re-enter the top 10 after years. She was last in the top 10 back in 2018 before failing to keep her consistency. Fortunately, she started her 2024 season well and will enter the Australian Open first round with immense form.
