Ryan Taylor feels Tottenham Hotspur duo James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have failed to live up to the expectations in recent months.

Tottenham made an exceptional start to the season under Ange Postecoglou. In the initial weeks, Spurs were in contention for the league title but a lot has changed since and the form of their attackers might have a lot to do with it.

James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have both struggled to get going in the second half of the season and journalist Ryan Taylor believes their poor form has played a big part in the team’s downfall in recent weeks.

The North London club lost four league games in a row before returning to winning ways against Burnley (2-1) on Saturday thanks to goals from Pedro Porro and Micky Van de Ven.

Following their win over the Clarets, Taylor slammed the attacking duo’s performance and wrote: “Dejan Kulusevski is having a nightmare. Tottenham’s forward players have fallen off a cliff. Look so short of confidence & quality. Same applies to James Maddison. Would be astounded if he’s selected for Euros on the back of this form.”

The spell of four consecutive defeats means they now face an uphill task to qualify for the Champions League. The win over Burnley will help but they are four points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with just two games to go.

Taylor believes Kulusevski has had a nightmare season with just nine goal contributions in his 37 outings. While Maddison did have an excellent start to the season and was their star player in the first half, he seems to have had a significant dip in form.

The lack of contribution from some of their stars might be one of the reasons why Spurs could end up missing out on a place in next year’s Champions League.
