Senators' Chabot out at least a week with a concussion

Thomas Chabot has been placed on the injured reserve by the Ottawa Senators after being concussed during the Saturday game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

He will miss a week at the minimum.

Chabot sustained the injury after receiving a hit to the head from Flyers’ forward Travis Konecny. It was an aggressive play and the Senators’ defenseman never saw it coming. However, the NHL has not punished Konecny for the hit.

Over the next seven days, the Senators will play the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, and the New Jersey Devils. These are important games for a team that is looking to get back to its winning ways. The loss of Thomas Chabot is huge and leaves a gaping hole in the team’s defense core.

In response to the injury, the Senators have called up defenseman Jacob Larsson from the American Hockey League.

The 25-year-old left-shot defenseman was signed by the Senators in the 2022 offseason. So far he has played 12 games for the Belleville Senators, scoring two points and a -10 rating.

Larsson is obviously not a player the Sens would like to see in their top-six during the regular season but this isn’t a time for beggars to be choosers.

The Chabot injury makes it three key Senators with injuries at this time. Josh Norris is expected to miss most of the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury and Artem Zub is expected to return to the Senators’ lineup sometime over the next week.

Thomas Chabot scored a goal against the Flyers Saturday and was a key part of the team’s 4-1 victory.

The win marked the end of a seven-game losing streak. The Senators will be heavily relying on their young defensemen Jacob Bernard-Docker, Jake Sanderson, and Erik Brannstrom to hold the line while Chabot is out of action.
