Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

The Montreal Canadiens announced on Friday that the team has recalled forward Joshua Roy from the AHL’s Laval Rocket. He will join the team Saturday morning.

The 20-year-old winger played in two preseason games with the Canadiens during training camp but has yet to make his NHL debut. Through the 2023-24 AHL regular season, Roy has 12 goals and 18 assists through 34 games with the Rocket.

He was named AHL Rookie of the Month for October 2023, having recorded five goals and seven assists for 12 points in seven games.

Drafted by the Habs in the fifth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Roy spent four seasons in the QMJHL, recording 135 goals and 162 asssists for 297 points, with a career-high 119 points (51 goals and 68 assists) with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in 2021-22, which earned him the Jean Beliveau Trophy for the league’s top scorer.

Roy was selected first overall in the 2019 QMJHL Amateur Draft after scoring 38 goals and 50 assists for 88 points in 42 games with the Levis Chevaliers of the Quebec U16 Triple-A Hockey League.

Roy also won two gold medals with Canada at the 2022 and 2023 World Junior Championships.
