Colorado Rockies Continue Tremendous Play With 7th Straight Victory
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Following an 8-0 win on the road against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night, the Colorado Rockies won their seventh straight game. The winning streak began with Colorado taking the final game of a three-game set against the San Francisco Giants on May 9. The Rockies then rattled off consecutive series sweeps over the defending champion Texas Rangers and the aforementioned Padres.

Colorado was led by Starting Pitcher Austin Gomber who pitched six shutout innings and limited the high-powered San Diego offense to two measly hits. Left Fielder Jordan Beck drove in five of Colorado’s eight runs in Wednesday night’s contest.

Colorado has outscored their opponents 43-14 over their winning streak. The Rockies pitching staff has been a huge part of this winning streak as well with Colorado surrendering more than three runs only once in their last seven games.

Will the Colorado Rockies be able to keep up their hot streak?

Colorado Rockies Season Summary

Even after such a solid week of games, Colorado(15-28) still has the third-worst record in Major League Baseball. Colorado’s offense is 20th in runs scored, has hit the third-fewest home runs, but is ninth in the league in batting average. The fact the team’s offensive statistics look so bad is because they were skewed by what was a miserable start to the regular season. Before the Rockies began their winning streak, they had lost nine of their last 10 games.

Colorado’s offense is led by Third Baseman Ryan McMahon. He is 16th in the league with a .304 batting average and is riding a five-game hitting streak.

As is the case with their offense, the pitching statistics of the Colorado Rockies have been dragged down by a poor early season performance. The Rockies surrendered 16 runs on Opening Day against the Arizona Diamondbacks and 12 runs a few days later to the Chicago Cubs. Colorado is last in the league in ERA, opposing batting average, and strikeouts. The fact the team plays half of their games in the “Mile High City” does not do any favors to their pitchers.

Gomber has been the team’s best pitcher this season as he is 1-2 with an ERA of 3.02.

Rockies Upcoming Schedule

Colorado will look to extend their winning streak when they visit the San Francisco Giants for a three-game set beginning on Friday. The Colorado Rockies then travel to Oakland where they face the Athletics in a three-game series that begins on Tuesday.

Following such a good streak of games, the Colorado Rockies will do everything in their power to make sure the victories do not stop anytime soon.
