Sergio Perez reveals his biggest mistake in 2023 against Max Verstappen

Following this, Perez has now identified the mistake he made and is now in the process of rectifying it.

The biggest mistake in 2023 was - we experimented too much with all the set-up options of a modern GP vehicle. Now we limit ourselves to the most important things, which creates a much more solid foundation. Sergio Perez said in an interview with Speedweek

The 34-year-old lamented that his biggest mistake was that he experimented too much with the car’s setup. This subsequently, hampered his progress as he was never able to feel at home within the cockpit of the 2023 challenger. However, this has now changed as he has limited his side of the garage to only change the RB20’s most essential technicalities while letting the other things stay the same.

Sergio Perez feels much more comfortable with RB20 than the RB19

While Sergio Perez has admitted to not experimenting too much with the 2024 car setup this year, he has been continuously improving. As things stand, he has so far managed to amass 64 points in comparison to Max Verstappen’s 77.

The former six-time race winner has explained that he is much more comfortable with this year’s machinery than its predecessor.

So we are continuing on this course. We try not to get bogged down, because the more you get lost in the details, the more likely you are to make compromises when voting. I feel much more comfortable with the car than I did a year ago, and when that happens, the confidence returns. Sergio Perez said in an interview with Speedweek

Perez explained that while he is rectifying his mistake, he has also been able to be more comfortable with the RB20 and adapt to its intricacies. Moreover, this has helped him to gain confidence in the car which was quite visible to see during the qualifying for the Japanese GP.

Apart from this, the upcoming Chinese GP will be hosted at the Shanghai International Racing Circuit. Moreover, Perez would be looking to test out his chances around the twisty track and challenge Verstappen for the Grand Prix win.
